Last Monday, Chris and I celebrated our seventieth month-a-versary! Can you believe it? Just two more months until we hit our six year anniversary. For the first time, in a long while, Chris and I actually got to spend our month-a-versary together. So, we decided to check out Descanso Gardens in La Cañada Flintridge.
Descanso easily translates into “rest” in Spanish. The garden was previously owned by E. Manchester Boddy, who owned the Los Angeles Daily News. The county bought the lot in 1953 and has since then developed the property to housing a rosarium, a Japanese tea house, lilac garden, bird sanctuary and a xeriscape.
Chris and I arrived at Descanso Gardens a few minutes after 10 in the morning. The tickets cost us $9 each – could’ve been $6 but we left our student IDs at home. Keep those school IDs – student discounts are usually available at county parks/gardens! To say we went on the perfect day is an understanding. The sun was tucked away behind the clouds, and it started sprinkling halfway through our little adventure.
I recently bought the 50mm lens for my camera so we put it to good use that day! We started off at the Japanese tea house, then made our way to the Ancient Garden. In the Ancient Garden, they set it up to look like you stepped foot into a Jurassic Park movie. We strolled around until we made our way to Boddy House and then eventually to the other gardens.
As per usual, we found the cactus garden! If you’re an avid reader of the blog, you would know that I absolutely plants, especially succulents and cacti.
We also stumbled upon this little resting house. Since it’s Comic-Con season, this is probably the closest we’ll ever make it to the Game of Thrones chair.
I actually forgot my tripod at home so it was hard taking a photo of both of us in it – but we did get one sort of, not really decent shot!
Descanso Gardens is absolutely beautiful and it’s a great place to get away for the day. Chris and I are definitely planning on visiting again since we didn’t get to check out several gardens or the lake. Plus, we’re thinking of having a picnic there someday. In other news, my verdict on the 50mm lens? LOVE IT. The colors and the focus are amazing. What sucks about it is that it’s a fixed lens so I’m the one constantly stepping back to fit everything I want to in the frame; aside from that, I have nothing else negative to say!
