The Getty Villa

Last April, my cousins and I visited The Getty Museum; today, Chris and I visited the other location in Malibu – the Getty Villa. This place is an educational center and museum dedicated art and culture from Ancient Greece, Rome and Etruria. The Villa has around 44,000 pieces on display – J. Paul Getty is one art collector, I tell ya.

This wasn’t exactly a planned trip – I like trying to find cheap things to do in our neck of the state, and this was one of them. The entrance to the villa is free but you pay $15 for parking. So, if you get a van and then add a lot of people then that would make the parking worth it. They do prefer you sign up/book the free tickets online and you show them that upon entering.

We arrived around 11AM and our first order of business was food! We ended up having lunch at the cafe. Chris got a burger with some garlic fries while I had a mushroom sandwich that came with salad. Thoughts on the salad? Not a fan. The sandwich? ABSOLUTELY AMAZING.

After our meal, we went around the villa; took some photos and watched the little film about the museum’s history. Everything seemed so peaceful here! Plus, the fog was in its prime form when we started strolling through the place. Unfortunately, they were doing quite a bit of maintenance, so the peristyle gardens was void of all water.

We spent a good two hours before calling it quits and heading home. The sun was beginning to shine through the clouds and it was a whooping 105F so we were getting really tired from the heat. Nevertheless, we had a lot of fun – already looking forward to coming when all the maintenance is finished.

  • You guys are looking cute! I don’t know why your latest posts don’t show up on my feed ๐Ÿ™ time to catch up though! I love how nice the garden (?) looks. I wish it was warm here though, apparently it’s going to drop about 10 degrees tomorrow, eeek.

  • How do you find new things to do in your area?

If you didn’t mention the temperature, I would have assumed it was fairly cold with the fog and all! The salad looks so half-assed but glad the sandwich was pretty awesome

  • You two are so cute! I love how you get out and explore the area together. Love you bunches my babies ๐Ÿ˜˜

  • I remembered seeing two different Getty’s when I looked it up the other day @___@. 44k pieces of art is.. Amazing… Meanwhile, I have 0 pieces of art XD. Man, they get you with the parking fee! At least admission is free. The food they have at the cafe looks super delish!!! You can never go wrong with garlic fries. Your mushroom burger is making me hungry.

The Getty Villa is so beautiful! Ok, at 105F, I would want to leave ASAP as well. You and Chris are super adorbs!

  • it looks like a villa in italy! you can just lie and tell me you went there, eena lol i really like the garden. looks lux yet relaxing. the food, oh damn the sandwich is calling me!

  • The Getty Villa sounds amazing – it’s great that it’s free to enter! I love the photos you took on the day. They’re all so beautiful!

Oh wow, that food looks amazing. I’d definitely want to try the garlic fries and the mushroom sandwich. They sound so tasty. It’s a shame you weren’t a fan of the salad though. I’m quite picky when it comes to salad, so I’d probably be the same.

    Hope you enjoyed your day!

  • Ahahaha! I saw “Getty Museum” and immediately thought of Getty Images, so it sort of threw me off for that moment. I like that quote of his on the wall you photographed! It’s very fitting.

It’s good to find cheap things to do anywhere, especially in an area that’s pricey ๐Ÿ™‚ The van idea makes sense, as well as booking online if you have quite a few people with you. The food looks yummy! Chris’ garlic fries sounds super yummy!

The museum looks nice, but shame that the peristyle gardens was void of water. I’m sure that would have looked nice. The fog gives the place an etheral feel to the entire place! Glad you were able to check this place out!

  • This place sounds really cool! I like seeing things that relate to Rome/Italy and Greece. So much history, and it’s interesting. That food looks delicious too!

  • I love how Chris always has a bit of a bemused expression on his face. I’ve never seen the Getty Villa with the fountains filled except in pictures. Good for both of you for braving the 105F heat. It’s been insane out here! I’ve never been a huge fan of mushroom sandwiches. I would’ve gone with what Chris ordered :p

  • I’m so glad that you enjoyed Getty Villa! ๐Ÿ™‚ From the photos, it looks like you had a wonderful time as usual! I love following your adventures ๐Ÿ˜Š

I love the last photo, you’re actually the cutest!!๐Ÿ˜
