Marble Falls Hike

Chris and I have been quite busy these past few weeks leading into the month of May. In fact, I actually went two and a half weeks straight without a day off working both jobs (I work as a psychiatric mental health nurse in acute psych, as well as working with the elderly population diagnosed with Alzheimers or dementia). Work can be exhausting at times but I honestly would not change it for anything else. On the first Monday of May, I finally got a day off and decided that Chris and I spend it up in the mountains. First day off and I still went out to hike/exercise? Why not, right?

Despite living close to the mountains for nearly half a year now, I only heard of Marble Falls recently after seeing a friend post about her own hiking experience. I was instantly hooked and decided that I needed to go soon! It’s located close to the Potwisha campground in the Sequoia National Park so the drive wasn’t too draining.

We actually got lost trying to find the hike as it was tucked away within the campground and we made several loops around it. We were close to heading back when we finally came across a park ranger who pointed us in the right direction. After following the ranger’s directions, we found the trailhead rather quickly!

The trail was shaded nicely but to be honest – we never finished the hike for several reasons: 1) Chris was also getting bit by insects left and right (his right arm was swollen for a good week after the hike after who-knows-what bit him) and 2) we honestly weren’t on our A-game that day (I forgot to read up on how long the hike was; forgot bug spray; forgot our inhalers at home)… It happens, especially when it’s been a while since you’ve stepped foot on the dirt path.

Despite that, we were able to enjoy the views and see nature! On the way  back to where we parked, we found a quick path to the Marble Fork of the Kaweah River and just sat there and admired the view while listening to the water. The water flowing through this park is honestly the cleanest and clearest water I’ve ever seen in my life.

We stopped by Lake Kaweah on the way home since the lake’s water levels are finally rising! You know what that means – almost time for summer lake adventures and some fishing! We grabbed some bourbon BBQ burgers as well and enjoyed that when we got home! We may not have finished the hike but it was still a great day spent together outdoors.

Length: 8-miles, round and back
Elevation: 4307 ft
To the trailhead: Take the 198 East, which right to the park, where it becomes the Generals Highway. An entrance fee is charged to access the park. Four miles into the park, cross over the Marble Fork of the Kaweah River and Potwisha Campground on the left. To the right is a parking area across from the campground that those not staying at Potwisha Campground can use for day use (like hiking to Marble Falls).

I love how you made the most out of your trip up the mountains anyway. <3 Although you didn't finish the hike, it looks like you had a good time.

My mom is exactly like that haha! She works loads on her feet (also a nurse) then goes to exercise when she has days off haha!!

Oh wow I’m so jealous that you live near somewhere so beautiful! If I was able to hike this I’d definitely love to knock off the gym sometimes and exercise and enjoy nature at the same time! It’s such a shame about the bugs though, the one down side of walks, they always like to bite me too!

Oh man, you’re kicking but in both jobs! Even though work can get a bit exhausting, you’re gaining valuable experience and rack in that dough, ya? You live in hike city! Marble Falls Trail looks really cool! I like that there’s a lot to see around you.

Is Chris reading this post? Hi Chris!

Oh man, I know my boyfriend would LOVE a hike like this. Bourbon BBQ burgers sound so delish. Glad you enjoyed your time out there, girlfriend!

Marble Falls is such a pretty name! I love nature walks. That’s annoying about the insects though. That always puts me off whenever I go on hikes! I love your photos! The scenery is so nice!

O my god, these views are absolutely spectacular!!
Again, I really wish we had these kind of surroundings close to us, but I’m afraid Holland is as flat as can be.
An 8 mile hike is pretty impressive gal 😉
Your stamina must be pretty good. I can also imagine that this is such a lovely way to unload the work stress. I work with eldery too.. Just in a different way. They call me for their incontinence materials and place their order with me.
At the end of the day, I am happy to have this job so I can help them out. It’s so important to them.
    Another lovely post eena ^^

Proper preparation is vital, I learned that the hard way as well, when my shoes hurt me so badly I had to walk barefoot for another 5 kilometers. Your photograhs of this place are so beautiful and you look so cute together! Hope next time you will reach the end of the trail.

Looks like such a cool hike – never heard of Marble Falls before! So many national parks and cool hikes in the States and I´ve only been to the big cities like SanFran, LA and NY so far! Thanks for sharing – saved for my future trips!

    Have a great weekend!

What a beautiful place for a hike! You’re so lucky to have this on your doorstep! I have to admit, I hate the bugs too. It’s the one big downside when walking somewhere like that. I always feel like I’m covered in them for hours afterwards too. Beautiful photos! x

I love that you love your job! It sounds challenging and exhausting but rewarding at the same time. I feel the same way about teaching :). We’ve definitely had those hikes where just about everything goes bonkers, but you’ve just gotta laugh at yourselves and keep going. I love how positive you two are!

Your mountain hikes are refreshing for me as I never had this adventure in my adult life except when I was still a kid in the Philippines. You made it look so easy going to the mountains. Last week we were in New Zealand and we were driving in mountain ranges in the South Island and I was trembling inside to see the valley below. I’ve seen the clearest waters like this too but only quickly because we were on the car unlike you where you sat down and chilled, that must be so fun!

Oh wow the hike looks amazing! The view looks great. I don’t go on too many hikes but I’ve found that the views always make the struggle worth it, haha. And I think it’s okay not to finish a hike! It’s good to know when to push yourself and when to not.
