Back in August, Chris and I headed off to Santa Maria/Pismo Beach/Oceano to spend some time with family. We arrived Friday night and decided to explore the little town of Santa Maria. We arrived rather late in the afternoon, so we scrambled to find a good restaurant when most places were to beginning to close their doors for the day.
We stumbled upon Ichiban Japanese Restaurant after the Korean BBQ place we found was packed and had a 40-minute waiting time. And it was great that we did!
Ichiban Japanese Restaurant had AMAZING dinner combinations. I ordered the chicken katsu dinner which came with miso soup, cucumber salad, assorted tempura, gyoza and rice. The servings were HUGE and the service was amazing – the wait staff made you feel so at home and treated you like family. I highly recommend this place should you find yourself in the area.
The following day, we got up early and headed to Oceano, CA where the Oceano Dunes were located. If you’ve seen Mad Max: Fury Road, this is what going to the dunes felt like… except with an ocean right nearby. We found a rental place, checked in and got dropped off at the ATV area!
The day was rather gloomy so it made everything better. Riding ATVs is so much fun – except when your ATV gets stuck uphill (which happened quite often). And as I quote Mad Max, GASOOOOLIIIIIINE!
This quick little weekend trip was a lot of fun. After we wrapped up our ATV riding session, we grabbed some bacon-wrapped (“big niño”) hotdogs at this hotdog truck. It was a great way to end a good day! Afterwards, Chris and I had to leave because I had work the following day. Hopefully we get to come back soon!
