Pontoon With the Platoon

During the Fourth of July weekend, my family was in town from Los Angeles and the Bay Area, so we headed up to Bass Lake where we rented a pontoon and jetski and spent a good part of our Saturday on the lake.

Bass Lake, with a population of 527, is located in the heart of the Sierra National Forest, just fourteen miles from the entrance of Yosemite National Park. Smaller than other nearby lakes, Bass Lake boasts of excellent fishing, hiking trails, warm waters and cozy mountain cabins on the lakefront!

We arrived in Bass Lake around noon and since our reservation wasn’t until two hours later, we explored a bit of the village. We grabbed some pizza at the Pines Village Pizzeria-Bakery and checked out the mini-mart next door where I grabbed some postcards and a fridge magnet. By the time our pizza was ready, it was actually time to head down to the marina!

The pontoon my parents reserved came with a tiny grill so we brought our supplies – hamburger patties, hotdogs, buns, and some condiments (shoutout to the bottle of garlic aioli that fell into the lake which we managed to save).

We explored the lake by docking the pontoon in different areas, then jumped into the water. The water was cold during the first plunge but our bodies eventually got used to it. Since it was a holiday weekend, the lake was pretty packed and the water would get extremely choppy at times. Nonetheless, it was still so much fun!

Being on and in the water is so much fun! Spending five hours on the lake was both fun and tiresome. We returned the pontoon and jet-ski with tired looks and sore bodies, but we definitely gained an experience of a lifetime. Until the next adventure!

Love that your family came to meet from both ends of the state! Bass Lake looks gorgeous, especially with it being low key compared to Lake Tahoe. Pretty cool that it is right outside of Yosemite. Mmm you can never go wrong with pizza. Your family is so cute. Glad you all had a great time out there!! BTW TFTI!! JK ;P.

Looks absolutely amazing! Nothing beats family adventures in the heart of nature. I’m from the UK, but this kind of thing is exactly how I picture parts of the USA (although maybe that’s because I watched Lake Placid too much as a kid 😅).

That looks so fun! I really love California’s alpine lakes! I’ve never been to Bass Lake but I was at Pinecrest towards the end of June and it was beautiful there. I’ll have to visit this one sometime as I imagine it’s less crowded!
